My first time at JEM was through a Federation CJA TOV initiative where we partnered with the employees to make awards for federation’s annual meeting. I was so taken with the conversations, the atmosphere and the authenticity of the whole experience it was an easy “Yes” when I was asked to join the initial TOV team of volunteers starting to go to JEM every Monday. Over the years I have so appreciated the employees, the staff and the other individuals that I have volunteered with. As I always say, “no one is ever that happy to see me as when I walk into the JEM warehouse”! The relationships, the stories, the laughter and the genuine love and appreciation is like no other I have felt. JEM is a very special place where the give and take of relationships is so balanced. As long as they want me to volunteer, I will be there!!!

As my wife has long Covid, this changed many of our future plans & dreams. I am retired and have good health and ability to help a place that appreciates volunteers. I was looking for a place to volunteer and my daughter recommended JEM, a place that could use my vast experience in packaging, sales and manufacturing. Interacting with the employees in their working stations, witnessing their social interactions with one another as they are doing their tasks makes me appreciate such a unique place of work and its social benefits. The set up of the working stations is done according to the ability of the team, this shows me how much thinking, preparation, energy and external input are put into this project.

I recently joined the team of TOV volunteers. I love coming in on Mondays and interacting with the employees. It’s a lot of fun leading the activities and watching their enjoyment. Bingo is always the crowd pleaser and I feel the joy they get from winning!! JEM is a very special place. The employees are treated with respect and dignity.

I’ve been volunteering at JEM since 2016. I look so forward to our weekly Monday activities, bingo, chair yoga, Zumba, games and many more.
